Yields of rotating stars at solar metallicity
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a new set of stellar yields obtained from rotating stellar models at solar metallicity covering the massive star range (12–60 M⊙). The stellar models were calculated with the latest version of the Geneva stellar evolution code described in Hirschi et al. (2004). Evolution and nucleosynthesis are in general followed up to silicon burning. The yields of our non–rotating models are consistent with other calculations and differences can be understood in the light of the treatment of convection and the rate used for C(α, γ)O. This verifies the accuracy of our calculations and gives a safe basis for studying the effects of rotation on the yields. The contributions from stellar winds and supernova explosions to the stellar yields are presented separately. We then add the two contributions to compute the total stellar yields. Below ∼ 30M⊙, rotation increases the total metal yields, Z, and in particular the yields of carbon and oxygen by a factor of 1.5–2.5. As a rule of thumb, the yields of a rotating 20 M⊙ star are similar to the yields of a non–rotating 30 M⊙ star, at least for the light elements considered in this work. For very massive stars (∼ 60M⊙), rotation increases the yield of helium but does not significantly affect the yields of heavy elements.

Massive star evolution at high metallicity
After a review of the many effects of metallicity on the evolution of rotating and non-rotating stars, we discuss the consequences of a high metallicity on massive star populations and on stellar nucleosynthesis. The most striking effect of high metallicity is to enhance the amount of mass lost by stellar winds. Typically at a metallicity Z = 0.001 only 9% of the total mass returned by non-rota...

For 12 C and 16 O, rotating models predict in general enhanced yields. At high metallicity, the carbon and oxygen yields from the very high mass stars, which go through a WR phase, are little affected by rotation. For 14 N, rotation allows the production of important amounts of primary nitrogen in intermediate mass stars at very low metallicity. The process invoked for this production is differ...
متن کاملMixing in Zero and Solar Metallicity Supernovae
Two-dimensional simulations of mixing and fall back in non-rotating massive stars have been carried out using realistic initial models for the presupernova star and assuming standard spherically symmetric explosions of 1.2×10erg. Stars of 15 and 25 M with both primordial and solar composition were modeled. The zero metallicity supernova progenitors were compact blue stars and the amount of Rayl...

We have obtained echelle spectra with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) of the MgII 2800 Å region of ten stars whose metallicities range from 1/300 to 1/3 that of the Sun, and whose space velocities suggest a halo or old thick-disk origin. Spectra of all ten show doublepeaked emission in the MgII core, very much like the quiet Sun. A halfdozen apparently non-rotating stars were observed more tha...
متن کاملPopII 1 / 2 stars : very high 14 N and low 16 O yields
Nine 20M⊙ models were computed with metallicities ranging from solar, through Z = 10 ([Fe/H]∼-3.1) down to Z = 10 ([Fe/H]∼-6.1) and with initial rotational velocities between 0 and 600 km s to study the impact of initial metallicity and rotational velocity Hirschi (2006). The very large amounts of N observed (∼0.03M⊙) are only produced at Z = 10 (PopII 1/2). The strong dependence of the N yield...
